Well it seems we are coming to a close on yet another year. I am writing this at an earlier than normal time of the morning so bear with me. Of course, being that we are closing in on a new year, its that time to do my "Best of the Year" blog.
I am skipping music and movies all together this time, mainly because NOTHING really piqued my interest enough to talk about. Not that nothing good came out, just nothing i want to stretch my tired ass fingers across a keyboard to elaborate on.
GAMES, on the other hand....WOW, what a year! I even had a bit of trouble trying to figure out my number one spot, but this is always a good thing :) i will also have a few honorable mentions i will suggest.
Here we go.
#5 - Fallout 3. While Fallout was a terrific game, it "fell" short for me on originality. Yeah yeah, i know some of you that have been playing it are probably saying.."are you f*cking nuts!!??". My argument for this was simply the fact that Fallout felt like i was playing a futuristic Oblivion. In many ways that is NOT a bad thing, but it was not the kind of experience i was looking for. HOWEVER, that doesnt make Fallout a bad game at all..(just a boring one in my opinion LOL). If you like big immersive games, with some power packed battles, lots of quests, and a seemlessly neverending array of gaming options, this is definately the one to get! But as i forementioned, if you HAVE played Oblivion and are expecting some vastly different gaming experience, i didnt find it, MAYBE others will.
#4 - Resistance 2. Ahhh yes, i remember the time i first got my PS3. The first game purchase for that console was Resistance, Fall of Man. I also remember spending countless hours playing it ...over...and over...and over, and loving every minute of it. Resistance 2, being a terrific game as well, just didnt pack the punch that the original had. The thing that really saved Resistance 2 for me, was the online experience. I mean cmon, a 60 person multiplayer!!?? For a console, can we say..."holy sh*t!!" Though with that many players on at one time, caused a few lag issues, but nothing TOO harmful. So for a good time, call up Nathan Hale (main character in Resistance)...go kill a slew of Chimera (the baddy alien guys)...and go tea bag a few egos online.
#3 - Dead Space. Now THIS one was totally out of left field for me. I heard about Dead Space from a friend at work, and never really took an interest into it. It sounded just like another Alienlike, creepy space game, trapped on a ship, gun toting around like a madman, or woman screaming "get away from her you bitch!".....not really what i was looking for. Though, at the time, games hadnt reeeeeally starting to spring up so having had the money and time, i picked it up...(after all, i had heard nothing but good things about it). And DAMN, good things were a plenty! I think i have played through Dead Space 4 times now, and it still doesnt get old. Its incredibly fun, VERY immersive, the lighting effects and sound are wonderful, and DAMN is it a creeeeepy game! Keep in mind, if you ARE a squeamish gamer, this is probably not for you....Dead Space gets DOWN n DIRTY! Hehe, yeah..gotta love it!
#2 - Gears of War 2 - This game really doesnt need much explaining if you are a gamer, console or otherwise. Gears of War made its mark in the gaming world on the Xbox a couple years ago, and now has made another mark with its sequel. Yes, again you are after the Locust horde as Marcus Phoenix and his cohorts. The action is nonstop, the new online aspects are a blast, and the replay value will keep you coming back for more. Again, this one really doesnt need much explaining...to sum up...a simply original, fun, fantastic game.
#1 - Prince of Persia - Now THIS one REALLY took me by surprise. I had totally forgot about its release (only last week mind you). I had just remembered it only a day or two prior, and thought...damn...a PoP game on the next gen consoles....it had BETTER be good. After playing it...i felt ashamed i had any doubts. The graphics are incredible, the characters are likable and belieiveable, the gameplay is nothing short of complete addiction, the replay value is nonstop, and you can't help but get caught up in your surroundings. Believe me when i say, i could NOT put this game down...even while i had a 102 temp, was throwing up, and hacking up a lung all at the same time. This game is sheer genious, and absolutely worthy of a number one Game of the Year award. This game is for everyone, do not pass up the Prince, its a ride well worth taking again and again and again.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 : I had to struggle to not put this game on my top 5, mainly because it absolutely deserves it. (possibly a number two spot). But oddly enough, i found it almost insulting to not put it as number one, and it deserved it, but the Prince won out...and it certainly did not deserve nothing other than a number one spot. DILEMMA!!!So, it gets my number one honorable mention. Its a superb shooter, with tons of content to keep you coming back for more.
Condemned 2, Bloodshot - As you may recall, Condemned won me over before with its originality, completely terrifying gameplay, and nerve shattering sound and atmosphere. Condemned 2 takes over where the first left off, though with new combat, and more creepy baddies. One particular aspect of note, was the environmental kills...OH WHAT FUN! I once killed a guy by beating him down, then dragging him to a toilet, shoving his head in, and then slamming the lid over him til his head popped off. WHEEEEEEE!!! Only a couple things kept this game from being in the top 5....for one, the creepy terrifying atmosphere, storyline, gameplay...WHERE DID IT GO??? It shows up in the first part of the game then everything just becomes like any other action game. To be honest, it got kina boring after a while. To make matters worse, for a game that originally relied almost completely on melee attacks, the latter part of the game basically turns into a first person shooter. All i could say to that was..."what a letdown!". The whole creepy , eerie feel, and terrifying moments of the first game, are completely lost...GONE in the second. While it still had its moments, creepy and otherwise....i felt i really need to give this one mention. But mainly to someone who has NOT played the first one. Still a great game, but if you played the first one, and you really liked it, you will probably feel a little gyped on this one.
Thanks all for checking out my fave fives for this year. Hope you ALL have a wonderful holiday season. Phantom...OUT! |

WOOHOO!!! Condemned 2 Bloodshot came out yesterday and i have it in my grubby lil hands! I started playing it last night, and just like the first Condemned, i was immediately creeped out (much to my excitement and joy!!). And with inmproved combat, and forensics, i could not be happier. =D Of course, i have already shit myself about 5 times and i am barely into the game. SWEET! I am sure i am in for a very wild ride! I had a friend who reads my journal every time i post, ask me if i might go on a more personal level when it came to music. He always makes a note to read my end of year top list and wondered what song/s, artist/s that really rock my boat. IE: All time fave song, fave band kina thing, so i agreed to write down a few things and see how well OTHERS might think they know me (i truly beleive music can define us in many ways). Most of what people read on here show me as either listening to music no one has ever heard of, or just plain wierd, LOUD, agressive, grinding, fucked up shit. I think THIS list might shock or bewilder some of you. LOL
TOP GROUP I AM MOST IMPRESSED BY: Quietdrive (at least for right now)
FAVE BAND OF ALL TIME: The one group that NEVER dissapoints me, Coldplay.
TOP SONG THAT CAN BRING ME TO TEARS: Filter "Take a Picture"
TOP SONG THAT MAKES ME GET DOWN: Apollo Four Forty "Stop The Rock"
and last one...MY THEME SONG (or what i consider it to be) or also titled my FAVE SONG OF ALL TIME: The one song i never tire of and has withstood the test of time during my travels, and frighteningly enough defines me in many ways...*drum roll*.................... Honeymoon Suite "Bad Attitude" |

Absolute best concert was at the grande opening of EMP Seattle. I saw Eurythmics (this was thier last concert EVER, at least for america) Matchbox 20, No Doubt, Beck, and Allanis Morrissette. Believe it or not, Allanis rocked the place, she was hands down the best performance. (although having gone mainly for Eurythmics, only to have VH1 fuck it all up cuz of thier damn helicopter flying overhead during Eurythmics time on stage. That was all well and good, however Eurythmics were doing an Acoustic set, and with the helicopter over them, they couldnt hear each other and cut thier set short!!!). Still, it was the best concert EVER! |

WOOHOO!!! Just got word that Condemned 2 will be on shelves March 11th of this year. I can't wait!!! More pulverizing, pipe wielding, brain mashing, body slamming, head ramming, neck snapping, spine ripping, shoulder popping goodness! AND MORE! Plus the extra fun of investigating the gruesome killings from notorious serial killers out on the loose. Not to mention the uber-creepy settings, sounds, visions (that poor Ethan has..IE: YOU!) and that ever so lovely feeling of dread every time you hear a sound in a room or down a dark hallway. It just gives me goosebumps of love every time i think about it. :) AND, the game has an updated combat mechanic, and even MORE disgusting deathblows. (can anyone say, head in toilet, slam down, equals decapitation? WHEEEEEEE!!) I am also anxious for some of the newer additions to the forensics and investigation. Hmmmm, this probably means that sometime after the release, you won't be hearing much from me anymore. ;) |

Imagine if you will, finally having found the perfect career choice, and to later realize that it is STILL simply work. This is my dillema. Other than the perfectly angst filled fun of retail (always a hoot) my love for Tattooing has suddenly become more "work" than enjoyment. This is the kind of shit that wakes me up in the middle of the night, (other than too many sit-downs with my buddy Mr. Glen, Glen Levit). Having resided back in my old home town here in Idaho, i can't help but look back (another thing i hate doing) and realized that instead of moving forward, i have been falling down backwards. Can i stand up now???? |

I JUST noticed on my last entry, for my song i put Gabriel & Dresden "Lost and Found". This is rather funny and stupid at the same time, since the artist is wrong for the title, and i had JUST put the correct artist and title earlier on the same post. HAH! Ok Delerium, sorry guys...i will put the correct labeling for THIS posting. |

Ok, back to it. Now for the worst games of '07, and MAN there was some doozies.
#5 The Darkness- Like most of the games on this list, i was looking forward to thier releases and this was one of them. Talk about BORING, and the overall look was somewhat patchy and last gen. Overall gameplay wasnt too shabby, but i really expected more from this title. It just got rather repetitive for my taste....not a REAL bad game, but not a good one either...in my opinion. That may have been because of the hype surrounding it.
#4 Timeshift- This game could have been GREAT, had they not made the time play thingy so easily obtained. It made the game way too easy, and at times too difficult. yeah, i know that doesnt make sense, hence the reason this game sucks ass.
#3 Lair- I dont even need to talk about this one. Just stay away from it, VERY far away from it...RUN in fact.
#2 Umbrella Chronicles- For a game that plays off of titles such as House of the Dead, this should and could have been a really fun, and addictive game. However, the horrible angles, repetivie enemies, and comepletely retarded speachtimes totally killed this title. If you want to laugh in spots you should be scared, by all means get the game...then quickly return it for Julie Finds A Way for your DS.
#1 Jericho- Hands down, this is the top winner for worst game of '07. Again, another game that held so much promise, and the letdown was so great, that i returned it only a week after purchasing this lame ass title. HORRIBLE graphics, stupid a.i., not a single moment that i was even remotely frightened. When you go wandering into your local game store, dont even look at this title ... its not worth the strain on your eyes.
MUSIC. DOing music differently this time around. Just naming off the good ones with no description except for artist and song title.
#5 Gabriel and Dresden - "Replay The Night" #4 The Killers - "When You Were Young" #3 Chemical Brothers - "Do It Again" #2 Gabriel and Dresden - "Dangerous Power" (Kuffdam and Plant Remix) #1 Delerium - "Lost and Found" (DJ Dan WWW Club Mix)
I am not doing movies this year, as i was not pleased enough with the selection for some reason. Oh WELL. :) Happy New Year all!! Lets hope for lots of great things for 2008 =D |

Here we go again. Finally i have something to write about. hehehehe. 2007 held so much promise, and having run in to a lot of dissapointment, i had to revert to past years to fill my list this year. Although having done that in the past, i feel this is warranted. In other words, some of my top 5's this year are titles of games or music or movies that may or may not have come out this year, but they were good enough to warrant a position in my top 5 this year. So with that said, lets begin.
Top 5 Video Games '07
#5 FEAR Files - Multi Platform- Having played the original title and had a BLAST, i really never had any doubts that this expansion pack would be cool as hell. and sure enough, its COOL AS HELL! Being an expansion to the original FEAR, there is no real big changes, but instead lots more fun gameplay that will keep you blasting away baddies in reflex time for hours upon hours. If you own a 360 or PS3, or do PC, and are a fan of the original, absolutely pick this one up, you wont be dissapointed.
#4 Asssasins Creed - Multi Platform- Stealth stealth stealth, visuals visuals visuals, is what i can say about this fantastic game. Talk about being sucked into a game, you can damn near scale any area of the game, climb to the highest peaks and look about the vast areas.....best part of this??? wherever you look, you can go! And i mean EVERYWHERE! They left nothing out on this beauty, and Altair (the hero you play) has some of the best looking combat play i have ever seen. you will swear that you are under the control of an actual human being. A must buy!
#3 Gears of War - Xbox 360- Ever wondered what it would be like to curb stomp your enemy in a game? Well, NOW YOU CAN! Gears of War redefines FPS with a fresh new look at enemy a.i. and brutal warfare. Plus varied levels of play will keep you up ALL DAMN NIGHT into the next day. I PROMISE! ;)
#2 Condemned, Criminal Origins- Xbox 360/ PC- This is one of the titles i mentioned at the beginning. Condemned was one of the first games at launch of the 360, and for good reason. It fuckin ROCKS! If you have not played this game, and you think you have played the scariest video game already, think again. If you enjoy clenching your controller in your hands, terrified to turn the next corner or enter another room, with faint echoes of your enemies lurking in the unforseen distance, you will absolutely crap yourself in Condemned. (i suggest no lights, surround sound turned up....i garuntee you will get the heeby jeebies)
#1 Bioshock - Xbox 360- Hands down the best game of '07. No other game has ever sucked me into its world and kept me going til my hands were so tired i couldnt play anymore. I can't really say much about this title without giving away its wonderful attributes. Just put it this way, just buy the damn game! Buy it....NOW...dont have a 360 or a PC that can handle it? GET ONE! NOW! RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!! LOL
Sorry for the break as i have to head to work right now. Best of 07 to be continued..... |

Sorry for the LONG delay in postings again. The reason for this is because i have been obsessed with a few new games that came out recently. Bioshock for one. My absolute fave game at this time. However, the biggest reason for this posting is about a game called Jericho. I was REALLY excited to hear about its release this OCT. However, i downloaded the gameplay demo on my PS3, only to be completely , and utterly DISSAPOINTED! Jericho sucks major game ass! Poor game mechanics, controls, LAME GRAPHICS (PS2 at best!), and not ONCE did i get creeped out. For SHAME CLive! Go back to making movies...even though most of those were pretty lame as well. |

Wow....life sure does take some nasty turns. A friend of mine, whom i had not spoken to since last Oct, and was going in for one of those tummy shrinking surgeries, had passed away due to complications from the very surgery he was going in for. (blood clot, went to the brain..end of story). Life is taken, i understand that, but when it happens in such a manner as this, it really upsets me. Kent never really needed that surgery to begin with...call it vanity on his part i suppose, but it just tugs on me that just "what if"....if he had listened to me when i told him.."Kent, your great, you dont need that surgery at all"...would he still be here? For the first time in a LONG time...i spent the entire night crying like a lil gurl. I hope your in a better place my friend. I miss ya. This ones for you buddy. |

OK, other than finding one of the best RPG's ever made, i have also come across one of the best FPS's ever made. F.E.A.R. (it stand for First Encounter Assault Recon). While the game has been out for years now (two or so) it just made its way on to the Playstation 3...FINALLY! I now know why it was awarded best First Person Shooter of '05. And DAMN is it freekin CREEEEEEPY! I don't really have time to go into details, as i am in the middle of playing it as i right this (yes..im SO multitalented)...so i suggest finding a way to experience it for yourselves. ;)
Anyways, also came across a super fantabulous new song (will probably be tied for first place on my song of the year this year) i am listening to it now...it is on my "music" on this posting. Check it out and have a listen....all i can say is...its SO ME! LOL |

Sitting silently in the corner of my mind, watching parades of shadow dance across the blinds creating an oddly comfortable forboding. The soft buzz of the monitor , the click, click, click of the keyboard reminding me of times better well spent with far more amusing company. Technology has reduced me to this sickly state of being, reclusion and madness spiraling me further down my path of distruction. For this is my redemption, my eagerness to release the demons of mine own and allow them to bear down upon me, tearing apart my sanity like blades through flesh. My sense, in no sense. This is what i have become. I make the walk again. |
